Welcome to week one of the 7-Week Thoughts Challenge!
This week we are focusing on the first attribute listed in Philippians 4:8 – True.
“True” describes something which is not false (the most obvious definition). “True” means something is real, and not merely assumed or imagined. “True” means something is steadfast, legitimate, and honest.
Jesus told us in John 14:6 that He is “the way, the truth, and the life”. If we know that Jesus is truth, and that Jesus never changes, then we also know that truth never changes.
There are so many lies the enemy tries to bring us down with. The key to this week will be identifying those lies and shutting them down with what we know to be true about ourselves and about God Himself.
Lie: “I can’t do this.”
Truth: “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] Philippians 4:13 (AMP)
Lie: “Things will never get better.”
Truth: “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)
Lie: “God can’t help me.”
Truth: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)
We know that God is love (I John 4:8), that He is the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3), and that He gives us peace (Isaiah 26:3). We know nothing takes Him by surprise (Hebrews 4:13, 1 John 3:20). We know that even when we don’t know the answers, we can rest assured that He does (Isaiah 40:13-14).
There are so many more examples of truth in the Bible! I encourage you to spend some time this week to dig up more of these truths for yourself, and then maybe share them with us (via comment below or on the Facebook group).
We can stand strong on the truth of God’s promises and of His character. We can defeat the lies with that which is true. So let’s spend the week doing just that!
