Perfectly Weak

Perfectly Weak

Do you ever have days when you feel like you just can’t? Like you don’t have the strength or mental energy to get through it all, or that you will never be enough?

I’m definitely having one of those days. I am reminded once again how very limited is my own strength. There are so many things I need to do, and so little time and energy with which to do them.

On days like today, I take comfort in the fact that God not only knows I’m not strong enough on my own, but He made a point to reassure us that it’s okay. It’s okay not to be bursting with physical energy and spiritual might every day. It’s okay that we aren’t enough, because we were never meant to be able to do it without help.

Ephesians 6:10 says, “In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might.” (AMP)

God doesn’t tell us to be strong on our own. He doesn’t tell us to dig deeper into ourselves. He specifically tells us to draw our strength from Him. We are to be empowered through our relationship with Him. We are supposed to tap into the power of His might because, unlike our own, it is limitless. It’s not restricted by anything we can or cannot do. His power doesn’t care whether we got a good night’s sleep or were up all night with a sick kid. It doesn’t matter if it’s almost noon and you’re starving because you can’t seem to catch a break and haven’t been able to eat anything. Because here’s the great news: God’s power doesn’t depend on us.

Not only does God’s power not depend on us and our strength, He tells us in 2 Corinthians that “My power works best in weakness.” (NLT, emphasis mine) God made us perfectly weak for a reason. Our weakness is actually a gift. It’s what drives us to our knees and reminds us of our deep need for an almighty Father. Without our weakness God will never be able to work through us, because unless we are humble enough to realize we aren’t strong enough, we will never allow Him to do so.

The strength we have on our very best days still doesn’t come close to God’s strength. God is the God of unfathomable and endless strength. And in our weakest moments, that absolute strength is perfected in us! If we will simply allow God to take over and manifest Himself in us…if we will just stop trying so hard to do it on our own and instead lean into Him…He will be glad to take over, because He loves to bless His children and help them. He will fill in the gaps where we are painfully lacking. And He will enable us to not only survive the day, but to hit today out of the park for His glory.
